Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws put together a four-run inning, but held on after the Lexington Legends also had a fourth run inning in a 6-5 ballgame on Sunday night. The BlueClaws are back to two-games over .500 on the second half.
In a back-and-forth game, the BlueClaws (13-11) struck first with a run in the first as Anthony Gose walked and scored on a single by the hot-hitting Travis d'Arnaud to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Legends (10-13) scored in the top of the second to tie the game at one.
The BlueClaws then took a big advantage after a run in the fourth and a big four-run fifth inning. In the fifth inning, Harold Garcia led off with a walk before back-to-back-to-back singles by d'Arnaud, Jim Murphy and Jeremy Hamilton, combined with two singles by Troy Hanzawa and D'Arby Myers put four across the plate and it's a 6-1 lead for the BlueClaws.
At the time, starter Heitor Correa (7-3) had been going along quite easily but ran into some big trouble in the sixth. Correa allowed a single to Albert Cartwright, and allowed Eric Suttle, Andy Simunic, Steve Brown and Jorge De Leon all to reach before being lifted for Ryan Bergh. Bergh then struck out pinch-hitter Brian Pelligrini before Jay Austin reached on an error, scoring two, and allowing the fourth run of the inning to score and make it a 6-5 game.
Bergh pitched well and got the BlueClaws to the ninth for BJ Rosenberg. Rosenberg has not allowed a run since May 31st, a total of 19.1 innings and he kept that trend alive with a seven-pitch save. The starter Correa gets the win, going 5.1 and allowing five runs, three earned in the game.
The Legends starter Jordan Lyles (5-8) took the loss and struggled to find the zone, walking six in four innings and allowing five runs to score.
The win for the BlueClaws is their second in a row and with a win in tomorrow's game, they will complete an above-.500 homestand.
The BlueClaws will complete their eight-game homestand and four-game series with the Lexington Legends on Monday at 7:05 pm. The BlueClaws will look to Trevor May (1-1), who has been very good in his last four starts and the Legends will try and get the split with lefty Brad Dydalewicz (5-4).
