Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - Johnny Monell played hero for the Augusta GreenJackets for the second time this season, singling up the middle on the first pitch he saw in the ninth inning of a tie game, scoring Mike Loberg from second to hand the Jackets a 3-2 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

The Jackets trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth when Andy D'Alessio doubled to left-center. After Juan Perez failed to bunt pinch runner Dom Duggan to third, Duggan advanced on a passed ball and scored on Mike Loberg's double to center. After a walk to Charlie Culberson, Monell singled to win it off Pete Andrelczyk (2-3), who blew his third save of the year.

Augusta scored first on a sacrifice fly in the opening frame from Josh Mazzola. Aaron King battled through 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out seven. With the bases loaded, Jeremy Synan's two-out single gave the Grasshoppers a 2-1 lead.

The bullpen was again the story for the GreenJackets, firing 3.1 innings of scoreless, hitless relief. Mitch Lively struck out two in 2.1 innings while Chris Wilson (3-4) fired a perfect ninth inning for the win.

The win extends Augusta's season-long winning streak to seven games and makes the Jackets a perfect 7-0 in both their current homestand and against Northern Division opposition. It's also Monell's second walkoff hit of the season and homestand and the third time that Augusta has come from behind in their final at-bat.

The GreenJackets will look for the series and homestand sweep with Kyle Nicholson (5-8, 3.28) on the mound to face Tom Koehler (4-3, 2.77) First pitch comes at 7:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on WRDW AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
