Hickory Crawdads News Release
SAVANNAH, Georgia - The Hickory Crawdads fell to the Savannah Sand Gnats, 11-2, before 838 fans at Historic Grayson Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Sand Gnats (13-11, 48-46) struck for four runs in the bottom of the first inning against RHP Joe Wieland (2-2). With the bases loaded, CF Sean Ratliff produced a sacrifice fly to left field to score a run, followed by a two-run double by 1B Eric Campbell and an RBI single by C Kai Gronauer to put Savannah into the early 4-0 lead. Savannah extended the lead with seven runs (three earned) against Wieland and LHP Yoon-Hee Nam in the bottom of the third inning, making it 11-0.
The Crawdads (14-9, 47-45) got on the board against RHP Kyle Allen (7-5) with a solo home run hit by 1B Erik Morrison, leading off the top of the fourth with his 15th long-ball of the campaign. Hickory tallied again in the top of the fifth, after SS Andres James and DH Mike Hollander hit back-to-back singles, putting runners on the corners. CF David Paisano then grounded a ball to first base, scoring James from third to make it 11-2.
However, both bullpens alternated scoreless innings after that point, and the 11-2 lead for the Sand Gnats would go final. Nam ended up allowing just one earned run, two overall, in three innings, before RHP Cody Eppley dealt a pair of scoreless frames and RHP Mark Hamburger finished the game for the Crawdads with a scoreless eighth inning. Wieland was tagged with the loss for Hickory, while Allen earned the win for Savannah.
