Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

The West Virginia Power beat the Delmarva Shorebirds 4-1 on Monday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. Zack Von Rosenberg pitched a complete game three-hitter to help the Power win on the final day of the season.

Roderick Bernadina hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning to put the Shorebirds in front early. Von Rosenberg would allow two more hits the rest of the afternoon after that pitch to Bernadina.

West Virginia managed only three base runners prior to the fifth off Delmarva spot starter Eric Wooten. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Alex Fuselier's first professional home run tied the game at one. The Power outfielder hit a 1-0 pitch by Wooten over the right field wall to even the score.

In the Power sixth, Taylor Lewis was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning. Lewis was lifted for pinch runner Francisco Aponte, who scored the go ahead run on a two out double by Dan Gamache. Chris Lashmet followed with a single to bring home Gamache and extend West Virginia's lead to 3-1.

Von Rosenberg continued to may short work of the Shorebirds. The Power right-hander did not walk any batters and did not allow a base runner between the second and ninth innings.

Eric Avila hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to cap the scoring.

Von Rosenberg (5-7) needed 75 pitches to finish his complete game effort and notch the win. Wooten (2-3) allowed the first three runs and took the loss for Delmarva.

West Virginia finished the 2012 season with a 61-79 record, but went 38-32 in the second half. The 2013 season will begin at Appalachian Power Park on April 4. The ballpark will also host the West Virginia University, Marshall University, and University of Charleston baseball teams during the 2102 campaign.
