(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Rome Braves hit three home runs on their way to a 9-1 win over the Lexington Legends in the 2012 season finale Monday afternoon.
Brandon Drury put Rome on the board with a solo home run in the second inning.
The Braves added another run in the third and then broke the game open with five runs in the fourth. Drury led off with a double to left field, moved to third on a ground out by Cory Brownsten and scored on a double by Elmer Reyes. Will Skinner followed with a two-run homer, giving the Braves a 5-0 lead. A single by Ross Heffley, a walk to William Beckwith, a wild pitch and a double by Robby Hefflinger produced two more runs.
Hefflinger extended the Rome lead to 8-0 with a solo home run in the sixth inning.
The Braves added one more run in the ninth. Chase Anselment led off with a walk, went to second on a wild pitch and came home on a double by Fernando de los Santos.
Lexington scored its only run in the bottom of the ninth. Ruben Sosa led off with a single, and scored on a one-out double by Teoscar Hernandez.
A.J. Holland (5-9) entered the game in the third inning for Rome and got the win after tossing two scoreless innings.
Mike Foltynewicz (14-4) took the loss. Foltynewicz, who was named the South Atlantic League's Most Outstanding Pitcher for 2012, was going for his 15th victory, which would've tied the Legends single season record set by Mike Nannini, who was 15-5 in 2001.
The Legends finished the 2012 campaign with an overall record of 69-69. They were 39-30 in the first half, 30-39 in the second.
