Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
Four Columbia River Rooster Tails (21-26) bullpen members kept the Hillsboro Hops (26-23) at bay Sunday night, with a combination of Osmy Gregorio and Gabe Matthews contributing offensively for a 3-0 shutout win at Gesa Stadium.
Zac Kristofak and Jake Smith (1-3) each pitched three scoreless innings for the Rooster Tails, with Smith holding off the Hops in the 4th through 6th innings for his first win of the season. Emilker Guzman went two scoreless innings following Smith, and Dakota Donovan pitched the 9th for his first save of 2022.
At the plate Gregorio went 2 for 4, scoring both times he reached base. In the 2nd inning Gregorio singled to left field off Hillsboro starter Jamison Hill (1-3), then advanced twice on wild pitches. Edwin Yon continued his hot hitting, singling through the left side to pick up Gregorio for a 1-0 Columbia River lead.
In the 4th Gregorio singled again, this time to center field, and followed with a steal of second base. After a Yon walk, another wild pitch moved both Gregorio and Yon into scoring position. Kyle Lovelace would send a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Gregorio for a 2-0 Rooster Tails advantage.
Gabe Matthews would add insurance in the 8th inning, closing the scoring by sending a high fly ball to left field that rode the wind over the fence for his sixth home run of the season and a 3-0 advantage.
Hillsboro takes the series four games to two, but the Rooster Tails/Dust Devils take momentum into their upcoming seven-game series with the Vancouver Canadians beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night. It's another Coca-Cola Tuesday, with 21 oz. Coke products available for $2 all night long.
