Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, WASHINGTON: The AquaSox came into Sunday's game looking to end a four-game losing streak. Reliever Ken Giles got the start and threw his best game as an AquaSox. Giles would pitch a clean inning striking out two, only needing nine pitches with seven being strikes.
Juan Mercedes followed Giles, entering the game in the top of the second. Mercedes, who had no-hit the Emeralds on Tuesday, shut out Eugene while allowing just two hits and striking out four. He extended his scoreless inning streak to 12. In those 12 innings he has 14 strikeouts. Mercedes now has a 3.86 ERA with Everett in 32.2 innings this season.
The Everett offense clicked today, as Noelvi Marte, Trent Tingelstad and Justin Lavey all had multi-hit games. Local boy Tingelstad got the Everett offense started with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. It was his first homerun of the season with Everett and put the AquaSox up 2-0.
An inning later, Myles Miller stroked an RBI single, driving in Lavey, putting Everett up early 3-0. After an out, Marte came to the plate and cranked out a two-run shot, making it 5-0 AquaSox. The homerun was Marte's fifth of the year.
Relievers Max Roberts, Jarod Bayless and Evan Johnson would combine for three innings of one run ball allowing just two hits and striking out five Emeralds.
