Kansas City Monarchs News Release

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The T-Bones' recent winning ways have been sparked by their veterans, but it was two Kansas City rookies who came up big Sunday afternoon as the T-Bones completed a three-game sweep of Gary SouthShore with a 5-4 win at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The RailCats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but it was short-lived, as Kansas City quickly took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Robby Kuzdale got on base with a single to left field and later scored on a home run to the berm in right field by rookie Jacob Hayes, giving Kansas City a 2-1 lead. Hayes, who was 0-for-16 in his first seven games with the T-Bones, followed Saturday night's 2-for-4 performance with a 2-for-3 outing with two runs scored on Sunday.

Hayes' second run of the game came in the fourth when he scored on a home run by fellow rookie Christian Torres to left field, which gave the T-Bones a 4-1 lead. Kansas City was able to make the lead 5-1 after Torres scored on a double by Tenbrink in the seventh inning. Torres, who recently completed his collegiate career at Park University and signed with Kansas City on Friday, went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in his second professional game.

Kansas City starting pitcher Bobby Doran (6-1) earned the win after striking out four and giving up four hits, two runs and two walks in 6 innings. Fernando Hernandez (6) pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and got the save.

The T-Bones will begin a four-game series with the Grand Prairie AirHogs on Monday night at 7:05 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618.
