Canaries Swept by Sioux City on Sunday Evening

SIOUX CITY, IA- Sioux City (31-12) had all of the momentum heading into game three on Sunday afternoon at Lewis and Clark Park. The Canaries (18-24) lacked offense much of the series; however, they did pick up three runs in the top of the sixth, but it wasn't enough as the Explorers took game three by a final of 6-4.

The Explorers got the game started in the bottom of the first when they picked up two runs from a Noah Perio Jr. RBI double and an RBI single from Tommy Mendonca. Sioux City tacked on another run in the bottom of second when Matty Johnson hit a screaming single into center field off of Birds' starter Stephen Bougher that scored Tim Colwell. Bougher settled down for the next two innings until the bottom of the fifth when Michael Lang scorched an RBI triple. The X's picked up two more runs on back-to-back doubles from Ryan Court and Tommy Mendonca. Michael Lang was 4-for-5 with two runs to pace the Sioux City offense. Bougher (2-1, 5.72 ERA) picked up the loss while throwing 4 1/3 innings on ten hits and giving up six earned runs.

The Birds' scored a run in the top of the third from a Chris Grayson RBI double. The finals runs of the contest for Sioux Falls came with two outs in the top of the sixth. Brian Humphries hit a double to score David Bergin, and back-to-back RBI singles from RJ Perucki and Tyler Shover. Jerome Pena and Brian Humphries each had two hits apiece in the evening contest. Sioux City starter Eric Wordekemper (3-0, 3.80 ERA) threw six innings on nine hits and allowed four earned runs to pick up the win.

Sioux Falls will look to get back on the winning side as they host the Lincoln Saltdogs for a four game series beginning on Monday July 6. It will be "Money Monday" tomorrow evening and tickets are just $1 in advance and $5 day of the game. Fans can also purchase bottled Coca-Cola products for just $2 all game long. Gates will open at 6 PM with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM.

The Canaries will send Jeremy Strawn (2-5, 4.56 ERA) to the mound in search of his third win in a Birds' uniform.
