Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Kansas City, KS July 4, 2015- The Kansas City T-Bones set off their own fireworks when the home team goes deep. Saturday night the T-Bones set off the homerun signal three times and added a five run first to beat the Gary South Shore RailCats 9-4 in Kansas.

The T-Bones tagged Gary starter Andy Roberts for five runs in the home half of the first behind six hits with the big hit coming from Brian Erie, who drove in a pair with a double. Despite trailing 5-0 and facing the American Association pitcher with the lowest ERA in Blake Holovach, the RailCats made a game out of it early.

The Cats got a pair of runs in the second with Drew Martinez picking up one of the runs with an RBI single and another coming home on a double play ground out by Michael Vaughn. With the RailCats down by three the T-Bones picked up one of their three homeruns from Robbie Kuzdale in the home half of the third

In the fourth inning the South Shore had Holovach on the ropes. Zac Mitchell drove in one run and Jon Jones drew a bases loaded walk to cut the lead to 6-4. The RailCats looked to have it set up for the big inning the club has lacked as of late with the bases loaded and only one out. But Holovach was able to keep the damage to a minimum getting Roger Bernal on a pop out foul and with the help of a close call was able to retire Adam Taylor with a 4-3 put out at first base.

Kansas City erased any hope of a RailCats come back with Adam Bailey adding another home run in the fifth and Kuzdale hitting his second of the night in the seventh. Holovach (4-0) hung around long enough to earn the win, while Roberts dropped to (0-4) in the loss.

The series will wrap up Sunday with the first pitch at 5:05 pm from Kansas City . The game can be heard on 95.9 WEFM and online at RailCatsBaseball.com. The RailCats return home Monday to face first place Sioux City at 7:10pm.
