SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Texas League has announced Springfield Cardinals right-handed pitcher Angel Rondon as Pitcher of the Week for June 24-30.

Rondon, 21, was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA over one start last week, striking out 10 over 7.0 innings.

Rondon set a season-high with those 10 strikeouts, which came in a 3-1 Cardinals win over Northwest Arkansas on Sunday, June 30. He allowed just one hit in the game, walking three.

The Higuey, Dominican Republic native is 3-0 over eight Double-A starts this season, striking out 50 in 45.1 innings. Rondon made his Double-A debut with Springfield on May 18. He has allowed two or fewer earned runs in five of eight starts with the team.

Rondon opened the 2019 season with the High-A Palm Beach Cardinals, where he went 5-1 with a 2.20 ERA in eight starts, striking out 47 in 45.0 innings and earning a Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star selection.

Across both levels (High-A, AA), he is 8-1 with a 2.69 ERA over 16 starts this season, striking out 97 in 90.1 innings.

A non-drafted free agent, Rondon was signed by St. Louis to a Minor League contract on January 6, 2016.

Rondon joins LHP Austin Warner (6/16/19) and RHP Williams Perez (5/13/19) as the Cardinals pitchers to earn Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
