Tulsa Drillers News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MO - The Tulsa Drillers bats only had managed 13 hits in the first four games of their road trip entering Monday night's opener against the Springfield Cardinals. But in the first of three games against the Cards, the Drillers bats broke out in a big way. Logan Landon and Zach McKinstry each homered, and the Tulsa offense pounded out 10 hits in a 6-4 victory.
In the top of the second, Landon got the scoring started for Tulsa. Keibert Ruiz singled and Errol Robinson walked to set up a Landon three-run blast to the back of the berm in left-center to give the Drillers an early lead.
Drillers starter Logan Landon cruised through the first five innings, striking out five and allowing only a pair of hits, including a solo home run by Justin Toerner.
Things changed in the top of the sixth. After a home run by Dylan Carlson and four-straight singles, the Cardinals found themselves with a 4-3 lead.
With two outs in the top of the seventh, Jared Walker drew a walk and McKinstry followed with a line drive home run to right that left Hammons Field in a hurry. After Cody Thomas hit an infield single and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Chris Parmelee lined a run-scoring single to left, capping the inning and giving the Drillers a 6-4 lead.
The Drillers bullpen took it the rest of the way. In the bottom of the seventh, Logan Salow recorded the first two outs, but left the game with runners at second and third. Ryan Mosely escaped the jam to close the seventh, and Nolan Long finished things off. Long struck out three in two scoreless innings while picking up his first save of the year in the Drillers victory.
WHAT YOU MISSED
*Michael Boyle picked up his second win of the season on Monday night, but it was not easy. Replacing Bawcom with runners at first and second with two outs in the sixth, Boyle uncorked a wild pitch and issued a walk to load the bases. He escaped the jam by getting Johan Mieses to fly out to shallow right.
*Ruiz was the only Driller with a multi-hit night on Monday and has hit safely in all four games since the All-Star break.
*In the top of the second, Bawcom notched his first hit as a member of the Drillers. The starting pitcher is now 8-46 with five different teams in his professional career.
UP NEXT: Tulsa at Springfield, Tuesday, July 2, 6:30 PM at Hammons Field in Springfield, MO. RHP Justin De Fratus (4-3, 4.53 ERA) vs. RHP Tommy Parsons (1-2, 6.48 ERA).
