Rodriguez Homers Late to Beat Pawtucket

Rochester Red Wings News Release
PAWTUCKET, RI - Reynaldo Rodriguez hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning and Rochester survived a late Pawtucket rally as the Red Wings topped the Red Sox 6-5 Thursday night at McCoy Stadium.
Rodriguez's homer backed Ervin Santana (2-0) who made his second of three rehab starts with the Red Wings (37-35).
Santana's night did not start well. Rusney Castillo hit the first pitch of the first inning the opposite way to right field for a solo homer and Carlos Peguero hit a mammoth home run that landed in the parking lot beyond the right field fence to give the PawSox (36-38) a 3-0 lead through three innings.
Jose Martinez brought Rochester within a run with a two RBI single in the fourth. The Wings would tie the game against Pawtucket starter Henry Owens on a Wilkin Ramirez solo homer in the fifth.
Owens did not factor into the decision after surrendering three runs on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts in 6.2 innings.
Santana finished on a high note by retiring the final seven batters of his outing. He allowed three runs on seven hits, two walks and a hit batter with three strikeouts and two wild pitches in 7.0 innings. Two of the hits allowed left the yard and two were infield singles.
The eighth inning started harmlessly for Rochester. It took Dalier Hinojosa (3-1) just five pitches to retire the first two hitters of the inning but James Beresford and Eric Fryer followed with two-out singles and Rodriguez homered for the seventh time this season to give the Red Wings a 6-3 lead.
Things didn't come easy for A.J. Achter, who tossed 2.0 innings last night, in the ninth inning. He issued a one-out walk to Sean Coyle - the first free pass by Achter in 19 appearances since May 1 - and Castillo followed with a single sending Coyle to third. Castillo then stole second before Quintin Berry hit a sacrifice fly and Humberto Quintero singled to bring the PawSox within 6-5. Carlos Peguero flied out to end the game, securing Achter his 12th save.
Rochester returns home to begin a seven-game homestand on Friday at 7:05 p.m. vs. the Charlotte Knights.
