Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release
A night after blowing a 2-run ninth inning lead, the Grand Junction Rockies held onto a 2-run ninth inning lead in a 5-3 win over the Great Falls Voyagers, Saturday night at Suplizio Field.
Great Falls did get a leadoff single in the ninth inning, but Taylor Black retired the next three that he faced, locking down his second save.
The win gets the Rockies to 12-7 in the second half, 35-22 overall.
Zach Fisher gave the Voyagers the lead when he hit a 2-out, 2-run homer in the first inning, but the Rockies rallied with two out in the third and scored three runs. Forrest Wall tripled home Omar Carrizales, and after Max George walked and stole second, Dom Nunez singled to give the Rockies a 3-2 lead, but that lead didn't last long as Patrick Palmeiro started the fourth inning with his seventh home run of the season.
Roberto Ramos gave the Rockies the lead again when he doubled home Kevin Padlo in the bottom of the fourth, and he scored from third when Wesley Jones grounded out to give the Rockies a 5-3 lead.
Great Falls threatened to tie the game in the fifth, thanks to a double, single, and stolen base, they had runners at second and third with nobody out, but Carlos Polanco struck out the next three hitters to get out of the jam and keep the lead. Polanco earned his sixth win by throwing six innings, allowing three runs, while striking out a season-high 10.
Logan Norris struck out the side in the seventh, while Gavin Glanz tossed a scoreless eighth.
Ramos and Carrizales had two hit nights for the Rockies.
Nunez has brought home 10 runs in the last four games.
