Chukars Game Notes: Zimmer Makes Debut

LAST GAME: Brandon Downes led off both games of the doubleheader with a home run. Corey Toups followed the the Downes game two home run with one of his own, en route to a 6-2 game two win. Idaho Falls scored two runs off of Dallas Newton in each of the first three innings. Matt Strahm cruised through the first three innings for Idaho Falls, keeping the Osprey scoreless while allowing no hits. Sam Lewis locked the door, pitching the final 2.1 innings, striking out six of the seven he retired. Missoula won game one of the doubleheader 3-2. After the Downes home run, the Osprey tied the game on a wild pitch in the first. Taylor Ard launched his second homer of the season to give Missoula a 3-1 lead in the fourth.

STREAKY BIRDS: Idaho Falls is trending in the right direction after a slow start to the 2nd half of the season. The Chukars have won nine of their past 13 games. Of the 13 games, 12 of them were against the Pioneer League North. The wins came right after a stretch in which they lost six of seven games.

WELCOME, KYLE ZIMMER: Idaho Falls missed out on a chance to see the Royals 2012 first round draft Kyle Zimmer, as he was sent to Arizona and then Kane County in his first season of professional baseball. The #2 ranked prospect for Kansas City by MLB.com progress was slowed down with arm tendinitis then a lat injury that prevented him from pitching thus far in 2014. The former 5th overall pick is making a rehab start with Idaho Falls. The 22 year old is currently the 50th rated prospect on MLB.com, and attended the University of San Francisco.

"THE MIGHTY OSPREY": Contrary to popular belief, Buffalo Wild Wings did not create the team named the Osprey during in their March Madness commercial. The Missoula Osprey are the affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tonight's matchup features the most recent two Pioneer League Champions, with Missoula winning in 2012.

INTERDIVISION PLAY: This is day 13 of the second stint of interdivision play. In the first wave, the South toppled the North with a 34-22 record. The South and the North are all tied in the 2nd stint, going 24-24 in the 48 games.
