July 20, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

Chase Burch hit a game-tying homerun in the top of the sixth inning, but the Traverse City Beach Bums were robbed of a hit in the tenth only to see the Rockford RiverHawks plate a run in the bottom of the inning to push the RiverHawks to a 2-1 win in 10 innings.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the sixth, the Beach Bums finally got on the board in the series as Chase Burch led off the inning with a homer to leftfield, his ninth of the season, tying the game at 1-1.

The game would remain that way until the bottom of the tenth when with Mike Thomas on first, Devin Shepherd doubled into the left-centerfield gap to score Thomas and end the game.

Rockford got on the board with the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning when with Brandon Anderson on third and two out, Javier Herrera reached on an error, scoring Anderson for a 1-0 RiverHawks lead.

For the second straight night, both starting pitchers were fantastic. Jacob Clem got a no-decision despite allowing just two hits and one unearned run over seven innings of work. Drew Rucinski allowed one run over six innings for Rockford. Garrett Granitz tossed the final two-thirds of the tenth for the win.

Offensively for the Beach Bums, Ryan Still, Kyle Colligan and Burch each had two hits.

Saturday's game at Rockford has a scheduled 7:05 p.m. first pitch and will have Reid Kelly (7-2, 3.86) on the mound for Traverse City against Ziggie VanderWall (4-3, 5.80) for the RiverHawks. The pregame show on Sunny Country 101.9 will begin at 6:45. The Beach Bums return home on Sunday against the Joliet Slammers for a Family FUNday Sunday and Classic Car night sponsored by Hagerty Insurance. All kids who run the bases after the game will receive a free ticket to the Beach Bums Family Carnival and Michigan National Guard Community Appreciation Day on July 28.
