Offense Propels Grizzlies to Fourth Straight Win

SAUGET, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies scored five runs in the third inning to come back from an early deficit and defeat the Schaumburg Boomers 8-6 at GCS Ballpark Friday night. The win was the third in a row for the Grizzlies and it gave them their fourth straight series win.

Jereme Milons picked up a fielder's choice RBI in the second and Chad Mozingo had a solo home run in the third to give Schaumburg (33-23) a 2-0 lead.

Gateway (31-25) erupted offensively for five runs on four hits in the third to take a three-run lead. Rogelio Noris drove in two runs on a double and John Shelby collected an RBI single while the Grizzlies collected another run on a wild pitch.

Noris added to the Grizzlies lead in the fourth with his second two-run double of the game and Jon Myers hit his team-leading 10th home run of the season in the fifth, a solo blast to right field.

Schaumburg scored two runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to rally but the Grizzlies held on for a two-run victory.

Tim Brown (6-2) went eight innings to pick up the win. The right-hander from St. Louis, MO gave up four runs on seven hits and set down 13 batters in a row from the third to the eighth inning. Jordan Cudney retired the final batter of the game on a strikeout to notch his first save.

Jonathan Johnson, Noris and Shelby all had two hits while Myers paced the Grizzlies with a 3-for-4 night.

Gateway will look for the sweep on Saturday night at GCS Ballpark. Right-hander Alex Kaminsky (5-4) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
