Normal CornBelters News Release
The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, dropped their fifth straight game, falling to the London Rippers by a score of 11-3 Friday night at the Corn Crib. London's Yohan Gonzalez (4-4) picked up the win for the Rippers, while Normal's Daniel Britt (3-6) registered the loss.
For the second straight night the Rippers got on the board first as the 'Belters committed two errors in the 2nd frame allowing Brad Agustin to come home on an RBI fielder's choice by Matt Wright.
Normal Shortstop Jason Thompson answered for the 'Belters in the bottom of the inning with a two-out RBI single in his first at-bat for the team, bringing in left fielder Sam Judah, and knotting the game up at one run apiece.
London broke the tie in the top of the 3rd when Stephen Cardullo scored on a passed ball by Normal catcher Trey Manz. One batter later, Joash Brodin came across on an RBI single by Agustin, while Mark Samuelson added the third and final run of the inning thanks to a groundout by Ben Magsig, pushing the lead to 4-1 in favor of London.
Brodin again extended the Ripper advantage with a two-out, two-run homerun over the wall in right in the top of the 4th, his second in as many days.
In the 6th Brodin tripled in Cardullo before scoring on a fielder's choice by Agustin later in the inning. Catcher Jim Vahalik followed that by belting an 0-2 pitch from Normal Reliever Kyle DiMartino over the fence in right center to give the Rippers two more tallies, extending their advantage to 10-1.
Agustin added another RBI to his total in the 9th, driving in Cardullo with an RBI double to left center.
Normal designated hitter KC Judge finished off his 4-5 evening with his second double of the night, driving in third baseman Andrew Cohn. Judge then came in to score two batters later on an RBI single by first baseman Ernie Banks Jr., making the score 11-3.
The series wraps up Saturday night at the Corn Crib when the 'Belters RHP Drew Provence (1-0, 0.00 ERA) takes the hill to face off against London's Jamie Richmond (5-3, 2.90 ERA). Pregame begins on WJBC.com at 6:20.
