
Rockford Takes Down Iowa 4-1

Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Wild (22-21-6-4, 54 points) were defeated by the Rockford IceHogs (29-21-4-3, 65 points) 4-1 in front of 4,102 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday night. Wild goalie John Curry (7-5-2) made 33 saves, including 15 in the first period, taking the defeat. Rockford forward Jeremy Morin scored a pair of goals to lead his team to victory. Iowa defenseman Jonathon Blum scored the lone tally, as his club fell to a 10-14-3-1 at home. IceHogs goalie Jason LaBarbera (11-6-2) stopped 19 shots, helping his team to a ten-game points streak (9-0-0-1). The Wild will host Rochester at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena.
Rockford opened the scoring 41 seconds into the first period with a goal by Joakim Nordstrom. The IceHogs forward one-timed the puck through traffic, giving his team a 1-0 lead. IceHogs forwards Brandon Mashinter and Garret Ross each assisted on the play. The Wild countered with a goal at 9:29 by Jonathon Blum. The defenseman fired a slap shot from the blueline, tying the game 1-1. Iowa forward Zack Phillips and defender Tyler Cuma each assisted on Blum's seventh goal of the season. The IceHogs reclaimed the lead at 18:08 with a goal by Jeremy Morin. The forward fired the puck from the left-wing circle, giving his club a 2-1 lead. Rockford forward Phillip Danault and defenseman Adam Clendening each assisted on Morin's season team-leading 19th goal of the season.
After a scoreless second period, Morin added another goal, this time on the power play, at 11:34 of the third period. The forward fired in a slap shot past Curry, giving his club a 3-1 lead with a five-on-three power play tally. Rockford forwards Brandon Pirri and Alex Broadhurst each assisted on the play. Rockford recorded another goal at 16:15 from Klas Dahlbeck. The defenseman rifled a shot through traffic, scoring his tenth goal of the season. IceHogs defenseman Zach Miskovic and forward Drew LeBlanc each picked up an assist on the team's 4-1 final.
Iowa hosts the Rochester Americans at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27. The team will embark on a five-game road trip with stops in Milwaukee, Chicago and Grand Rapids prior to returning home on Sunday, Mar. 16 at 5:05 p.m. to host San Antonio. Sunday's game marks the beginning of a six-game homestand. The team also welcomes Texas, Grand Rapids and Charlotte over the home stretch.
