IceCaps, Statoil to Recognize Community Heroes
February 25, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
Do you know a volunteer 18 years old or younger whose hard work deserves recognition?
The St. John's IceCaps and Statoil are Celebrating the Heroes of Tomorrow and are seeking nominations of deserving youth volunteers from our community.
Fifteen volunteers will be chosen to attend the IceCaps March 8th game versus the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at Mile One Centre. Nominations may be made by organizations or the general public by visiting the IceCaps website (stjohnsicecaps.com).
"Volunteering is an invaluable endeavour in our community," said Danny Williams, President and CEO of the St. John's IceCaps. "Those who offer their time assisting others and contributing to community initiatives deserve to be recognized for their tremendous efforts. The IceCaps are thrilled to partner with Statoil once again to honour these young individuals who have unselfishly made a difference in the community."
Atle Aadland, Vice President, Statoil Canada Offshore Newfoundland, says volunteering is important in shaping the lives of the volunteers themselves and not just the people they assist.
"When youth volunteer, they develop generosity, compassion, leadership, and confidence," said Aadland. "Volunteering helps to shape attitudes and build character, so that youth can have the skills to overcome challenges and accept opportunities. This is why Statoil supports the heroes of tomorrow through events such as this."
