Rockford, IL - The Abbotsford Heat lost 3-2 to the Rockford IceHogs (AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks) at the BMO Harris Bank Center on Saturday night.
Krys Kolanos scored the first two goals of the game to give the Heat a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes, but the IceHogs scored a pair of third period even-strength markers to hand the Heat their third straight road loss.
The Heat opened the scoring on the power play with Krys Kolanos' sixth goal of the season at 5:44 of the first period. Ben Street and T.J. Brodie each drew assists on the goal.
Abbotsford went up 2-0 later in the first period when Kolanos was set up by T.J. Brodie and Ben Walter for his second of the night at 16:32. Ben Smith scored for the IceHogs at 18:36 of the first, and the Heat led the game 2-1 after one period.
The Heat outshot the IceHogs 15-9 in the second period. Neither team scored and the Heat took a 2-1 lead into the third period.
Nick Leddy tied the game for the IceHogs at 2-2 at 7:33 of the third period. Brandon Pirri put the IceHogs ahead 3-2 at 12:09 to complete the comeback.
Danny Taylor stopped 28 of 31 shots in his 14th start of the season. The Heat outshot the IceHogs by a 33-31 margin on the night.
Krys Kolanos scored the game's lone power play goal. The Heat and the IceHogs each had five man-advantages in their first meeting of the season.
The Heat resume play after the holiday break on December 29th, with a 5:00 PM PST game in Chicago, broadcast on Sportsnet One. The televised game is the first of two games against the Chicago Wolves (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) in less than 24 hours at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL. The Heat will close 2012 with their third game in three days, facing the Peoria Rivermen at the Carver Center.
Abbotsford returns home to play the Rochester Americans (AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres) on January 4th and 5th, opening eight straight home games in January, including games against the Chicago Wolves on January 11th and 12th.
