Rockets Send Four to AHL Clubs

The Kelowna Rockets sent four players off to compete with their respective NHL affiliate clubs as they enter the AHL Playoffs.

The Syracuse Crunch, the AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning recalled Rockets Captain Cal Foote. On Sunday, April 1st Foote signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Lightning. After being drafted 14th overall in the first round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Lightning, Foote had an astounding season with the Rockets. He was named the 23rd Captain in Kelowna Rockets history, and showed all season why. While playing massive minutes on the Rockets blue line, Cal led Kelowna's defence in scoring with 19 goals and 51 assists for 70 points. His 70 points placed him fourth in team scoring, and sixth in league scoring for defenceman. His 19 goals were fourth best among defenceman in the league as well. The Englewood, CO. native also won a gold medal with Team Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championships this past holiday season. He was also a part of Team WHL for the CIBC Canada Russia Series. Foote was named Kelowna's defenceman of the year, as well as Most Valuable Player at the Rockets Awards Ceremony in March. He was also voted as the the Top Defenceman in the Western Conference and is now eligible to win the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy as the league's Top Defenceman. Foote will now join the Crunch as they head into the post season.

The Stockton Heat, the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames recalled Rockets Assistant Captain Dillon Dube. Following another big offensive season for Dube in which he notched 38 goals, 46 assists, and 84 points to finish second in team scoring on the Rockets roster, he will join the Heat for a playoff run for the second time. Last season Dube joined the Heat in their post season play and dressed for one game. Dube had a year to remember in Kelowna. Not only did he set career highs in goals, assists, and points, but he also Captained Team Canada to a World Junior gold medal in January, becoming the first Kelowna Rockets player in franchise history to play in back-to-back World Junior tournaments for Canada, and the first in franchise history to dawn the 'C' for Canada in the tournament. Dube was also the Captain of Team WHL in the CIBC Canada Russia Series in which he recorded five points(2G, 3A) to tie a record for points in the tournament. Dube was named the first ever recipient of the Kelowna Rockets 'President's Award' to recognize outstanding and significant accomplishments. Last season Dube signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Flames after being drafted in the second round, 56th overall by Calgary in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Dube will now join Stockton as they head into the post season.

The Utica Comets, the AHL Affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks recalled Rockets forward Kole Lind. After leading the Rockets in scoring for the second season in a row, Lind's 39 goals and 56 assists for 95 points were good enough for 11th in league scoring, and impressed the Canucks enough to earn him a three-year entry-level contract on March 1st. After being drafted in the second round, 33rd overall by the Canucks at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft the Shaunavon, SK. native was second in goal scoring for Kelowna, and his 33 power play points led the Rockets. Lind was a part of Team WHL at the CIBC Canada Russia Series in which he recorded three points(2G, 1A) in two games played. Lind will now join the Comets as they enter the AHL Playoffs.

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers recalled Rockets forward Carsen Twarynski. Following a season in which his numbers exploded offensively, on March 11th, Twarynski signed a three-year entry level contract with the Flyers. After being drafted in the third round, 82nd overall by the Flyers in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, the Calgary, AB. native was traded to Kelowna from the Calgary Hitmen part-way through the 2016-2017 regular season. Serving as one of the three overage players on the Rockets roster, Twarynski found a new stride in his offensive game, exploding for 45 goals and 27 assists for 72 points. He led the Rockets in goal scoring, and his 45 goals placed him 9th in league goal scoring. His team leading 18 power play goals were third best in the WHL this season. Twarynski will now join the Phantoms as they enter the AHL post season.
