Tri-City Americans News Release

KENNEWICK, WA - The Western Hockey League has announced today that Tri-City Americans forward Morgan Geekie has been named the Player of the Month for March.

Geekie's performance in the quarterfinal opening round four-game sweep of the B.C. Division Champion Kelowna Rockets solidified this award. Geekie scored nine goals, 13 points in the four games, including three goals in the clinching 5-3 win over the Rockets last Thursday at Toyota Center. Two of those goals came in the final 55 seconds of the game to seal the series. The 19-year-old from Strathclair, Manitoba had 30 goals, 84 points in 68 games this season.

During the four-game sweep of the Rockets, Morgan had multi-point efforts in each game and became the first Americans player to record nine goals in a series since Daymond Langkow in the mid-90's.

In the month of March, Geekie collected 29 points (16 goals, 13 assists and a plus 11) in 14 games.

Nearing the end of the first round of the 2018 WHL Playoffs, Geekie leads all WHL players with goals and tied for second in points. During the first round of playoffs, Geekie was recognized in the WHL Three Stars of the Night three times, earning a pair of first star honors and a second star status.

Geekie was a 3rd round draft choice of the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes (67th overall) in the June 2017 entry draft.

The Americans now await their second-round opponent as the Vancouver Giants and Victoria Royals will play game 7 tonight in Victoria at 7 pm.
