
Rockets Defeat Hawks in Shoot-Out 5-4

The Kelowna Rockets scored twice in the shoot-out to knock off the Portland Winter Hawks by a score of 5-4 on Friday night at the Prospera Place in Kelowna.
Stepan Novotny and Brandon McMillan scored in the shoot-out for Kelowna while Portland got a single marker from Chris Francis.
Portland took a 2-0 lead early in the second period on goals by Luke Walker and Stefan Schneider, but Kelowna scored back-to-back power play goals just eight seconds apart by Cody Almond and Tyson Barrie to tie score halfway through the middle period.
Radim Valchar scored in the first minute of the third period to give the Hawks a one-goal lead again, but Kelowna got the next two, by Novotny and Almond, to take a 4-3 lead.
The Hawks tied it in the final minute when Colin Reddin found a loose puck in the crease and tipped it home to send the game to overtime. Neither team could score in the five minute overtime session.
Kurtis Mucha stopped 32 of 36 shots for Portland while Adam Brown stopped 24 of 28 shots for Kelowna.
On special teams, Kelowna finished 3 for 8 on the power play while Portland went 0 for 7.
Next up, the Hawks finish their road trip in Tri City, taking on the Americans at 7:00 on Saturday night.
