Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- A battle between the top two teams in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division highlights Friday night's 9-game schedule.

The Saskatoon Blades, owners of the division lead since September, travel to Brandon to meet the second place Wheat Kings.

Winners of five straight games and eight of their last nine (8-0-1-0), the Wheat Kings have pulled to within four points of Saskatoon entering weekend play. While the Blades are currently 27-11-2-1 on the season, Brandon is 25-13-2-1.

Brandon is coming off Tuesday night's 2-1 loss to the Broncos in Swift Current in a game that the Wheat Kings were forced to play without their scoring leader, 17-year old Scott Glennie. The Winnipeg product has been battling the flu bug this week but hopes to return for this weekend's 2-game home stand that concludes Saturday night against Edmonton.

In 40 games this season, Glennie has 22 goals and 53 points and has points in his last eight games (5-10-15). While the former second round bantam draft choice has been hot since Christmas, 19-year old veteran Jay Fehr currently leads all WHL players with a 9-game point scoring streak. Since December 12th, the Morden native has five goals and 17 points.

Another player set to rejoin the Brandon lineup Friday will be veteran defenceman Keith Aulie. Fresh from winning a gold medal at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa and signing a new contract with the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames, Aulie will be playing his first game with the Wheat Kings since December 10th.

The 19-year old Rouleau, Saskatchewan product will be honoured before Friday's game by the Wheat Kings, the City of Brandon and the Province of Manitoba.

As well, Friday night's game will feature the hockey club's 2009 Family Skate Night, presented by 880 CKLQ, 94.7 Star FM and The Home Depot. Fans are encouraged to bring their skates and cameras to the arena and join the Wheat Kings on the ice following the game.

Tickets to Friday and Saturday night's games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca
