CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y.- Cooper Casad pitched five strong innings and Jared Mitchell drove in three as the Rockers took down the Long Island Ducks 6-4 on Thursday night.

Playing under threatening skies at Fairfield Properties Ballpark in Central Islip, New York, the Rockers opened the scoring in the first inning when Jared Mitchell drove in two runs with a single. The Ducks countered in the bottom of the inning on an RBI groundout by MLB journeyman Danny Valencia.

High Point (18-19) would add two more runs in the third inning when James McOwen singled, and Jerry Downs launched a two-run home run to extend the Rockers lead to 4-1. In the bottom of the inning, Cooper Casad (2-0) ran into his only trouble of the night, when a two-run single by Ian Kinsler cut the High Point lead down to one run. Casad's day would end after five innings of three run (two earned) ball, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out four.

The Rockers scored two more in the fifth, one on Jared Mitchell's second single of the game, and another on JR DiSarcina's sacrifice fly.

The Ducks added one final run in the bottom of the sixth off Rockers reliever Daniel James, but Preston Gainey (5 saves) came into the game in the ninth inning and retired all three Long Island (20-17) batters he faced to record the save.

The Rockers travel to Lexington, Kentucky tonight to begin a three-game series with the Legends tomorrow. High Point trails Lexington in the standings and plays the Legends six more times in the first half. Tomorrow's series opener begins at 7:05 PM.
