Rock Cats Prepped For 7th Homestand Of 2009

July 6, 2009 - Eastern League (EL) - New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - With Summer now officially upon us, the New Britain Rock Cats will be raising the curtain on their 7th Homestand of the 2009 Season tomorrow night (7/7) at New Britain Stadium. At 7:05 PM on Tuesday, the 'Cats will kick off their first full homestand of Summer/2009 with a compact 4-games-in-3-days showdown with their Nutmeg State neighbors, the red-hot CT Defenders. The Defenders from Norwich are, of course, a Northern Division foe - affiliated with the National League's San Francisco Giants - and a club that has been either at or near the top of the North standings for the last two months. This will be an important series for the 2nd Place Rock Cats as, thus far, the Defenders have prevailed in every contest these two Constitution State clubs have played at New Britain Stadium this year! With even a slight change in fortunes, the 'Cats will climb further in the EL standings. And once the crew from Norwich departs the Hardware City late on Thursday night, in will come the Binghamton Mets, Eastern League partners of the National League's New York Mets. The mini-Mets will be with us for an extended weekend - from Friday night through Monday afternoon. Eight big games over 8 Southern New England Summer days and nights - this stretch should be fun on a number of different levels! And if all this hardball action isn't enough, there'll also be Post Game Fireworks, a pre-game Block Party, Irish Night with a Green Hat Giveaway, , a T-Shirt Giveaway on Healthcare Employee Recognition Night, a mid-week Single-Admission Doubleheader, a Sunday afternoon Kids Run The Bases opportunity and, oh yeah, a 12 Noon game on Monday! What a combo: terrific baseball - and great family fun!

The details of all the scheduled action in and around New Britain Stadium for the period between Tuesday, July 7th and Monday, July 13th are as follows:

TUESDAY NIGHT, JULY 7th , 7:05 PM: With the Rock Cats back in town after an 8-game road swing that took them from Maine to New Jersey, awaiting them at the Stadium on Tuesday night will be the CT Defend- ers, EL partners of that National League team By the Bay, the San Francisco Giants. Another Northern Division entry, the young Giants are loaded with prospects and their play on the field this year has reflected just that. Beyond the exciting on-field competition, there will be other activities in and around New Britain Stadium tomorrow

night as well. For openers, if it's Tuesday, it's also Kids Eat Free Night in New Britain, whereby all fans 12-and-under receive a coupon upon entry for a free Hot Dog (Kayem!) and Soft Drink...this timely treat is made possible by our friends at Harte Nissan. Another Tuesday staple is being served up by the good people at KRAFT. KRAFT Singles has teamed up with the Rock Cats and other Minor League Baseball clubs to help families get out to the ballpark more often this year. Simply bring a KRAFT Singles package wrapper to the Stadium Box Office - buy one ticket - and get one free, courtesy of KRAFT. This offer will be good every Tuesday night from now through September 1, 2009! Moreover, our friends at Wethersfield Rental are also sponsoring a unique, Rock Cats 2009 Players Magnet Giveway on July 7th and, the MS Society of Connecticut will be hosting a fundraiser in the open-air Samuel Adams Rooftop Bar and Grill, starting at 5:30 PM. Details: For an on-site donation of $25, you will gain access to a delightful Beer Tasting, with all proceeds going to benefit the good works of the local MS Society.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, JULY 8th - TWI-NIGHT DOUBLEHEADER - 5:05 PM: The talented Defenders from Norwich are back with us on Wednesday evening for a special Twi-Night Doubleheader, with Game1's first pitch scheduled for 5:05 PM. This recently constituted twin-bill was put together to make up the June 26th game between these two clubs that was rained out. The result: fans will now get two seven-inning games for the price of one! It's also Inhalant Abuse Awareness Night at the Stadium - sponsored by the Washington, DC-based Alliance for Consumer Education - and, in addition to the Alliance's important cautionary message for parents and kids, ACE will also be sponsoring a 2009 Rock Cats Team Poster Giveaway. And, as its Wednesday, it's also Family 4-Pack Night, whereby families get 4 Reserved Seats, 4 Hot Dogs, 4 Sodas and 4 Popcorns for just $30, courtesy of SBLI. That's value - and fun! Last, but hardly least, we are also pleased to note that Wednesday's Doubleheader will also be an occasion - we call it "Amnesty Night" - for fans holding unused 2009 tickets to bring them to the Box Office to get into the evening's double-barreled action. You are holding tickets to an earlier game that you couldn't attend? Please use them Wednesday!

THURSDAY NIGHT, JULY 9th, 7:05 PM: The Defenders are back on Thursday night to play the fourth and final tilt of this 4-game, mid-week set. There'll be lots going on this night as it's also Healthcare Employee Recognition Night at the Stadium as the Rock Cats join in honoring all those who work the front lines to keep us independent and well. The good people at the Kindred Healthcare Community (Andrew House Healthcare, Parkway Pavilion Healthcare, and Windsor Estates Health and Rehab Center) are sponsoring a T-Shirt Giveaway which will be available to the first 1,200 folks through the gates on Thursday night. We are also honored to be joined this night by the Middlesex Gastroenterology Associates who have raised funds for the local chapters of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.

And, of course, Thursday night is also Meet the Players Night, with doors opening at 5:30 PM for fans of all ages to go down to the home dugout for a meet/greet/and photo op with members of the 2009 Rock Cats. This enjoyable opportunity is sponsored by our friends at Guida's Milk & Ice Cream. And for those arriving early and looking for other refreshment, the Samuel Adams Rooftop Bar & Grill will open early with food and drink specials. Feel free to raise a glass to those who strive to make us all healthy!

FRIDAY NIGHT, JULY 10th, 7:05 PM: On Friday night the on-field opposition changes to yet another opponent from the League's Northern Division, the Binghamton Mets from western New York. Partners of the NL's New York Mets, the B-Mets bring a talented squad to the Hardware City - one that has been struggling mightily to get back into the post-season mix. Friday's 7:05 PM contest will be but Game #1 of a four-game weekend series that will see the action run straight through to Monday afternoon. We are also pleased to have the Lupus Foundation of America with us on this night. And once the on-field baseball excitement concludes in Friday's opener, there'll be a post-game Fireworks Show that will light up the central Connecticut skies! This après-game spectacular is sponsored by our sturdy and reliable friends at The Stanley Works!

The Rock Cats' third (of four) Youth Baseball Clinic of 2009 will start at 12:30 PM and run 90 minutes on the field. New Britain Manager Tom Nieto will instruct the young attendees - all boys and girls 12-years-old-and under are warmly invited - in the fundamentals of baseball. The kids will be joined at various on-field stations to receive tips from Rock Cats coaches and players in the basics of hitting, fielding, throwing, and base-running. All participants who pre-register will receive both a free Youth Clinic T-shirt, as well as a free ticket to Saturday evening's 7:05 PM game against the B-Mets. Parents, Grandparents, and Youth League Coaches are all invited to sit in the grandstand and observe their favorite player receive this professional instruction.

The young Mets from Binghamton are back with us at 7:05 PM on Saturday night for Game #2 of this four-game weekend series. And on this date - in addition to all the baseball competition on the field - there'll be loads of pre-and post-game action. Long before the baseball begins, there will be a pre-game Block Party outside the Stadium's front gates as our friends from D'Angelo's and 7-11 will be out there offering food and drink samples and specials to fans who drop by from 4:45 PM on! For the kids, there will be games, bouncy inflatables, and other age-related fun activities on site as well. Once fans start streaming through the front gates shortly after 5:00, they'll want to arrive a wee bit early as it's also Irish Night at the Stadium with Irish Step dancers in and around the gates, and a related Green Rock Cats Cap Giveaway for the first 1,200 adults through the turnstiles. The green cap giveaway is made possible by our friends at TD Banknorth. For good measure - and perhaps luck - the Rock Cats will be decked out in their emerald green jerseys for the game! Moreover, the evening's pre-game activities will include a live, on-field performance show by Billy Eagan's band, "The Rising", starting 'round 5:45 PM. Finally, once the evening's game concludes, there'll be the Saturday night post-game fun called AT&T Launch-A-Ball, whereby participating fans toss tennis balls at on-field targets with a chance to win great prizes. It's a blast, and all the proceeds benefit the Rock Cats Foundation which, in turn, helps our neighbors in need. A Win-Win!

The season's 7th Homestand rolls on with a 1:35 PM Sunday afternoon game between the Rock Cats and the talented Metropolitans. While the baseball action on the diamond promises to again be exciting, so will the pre-and post-game events as - in the case of the former, the Rock Cats and Guida's Milk & Ice Cream are celebrating their on-going partnership by giving away a unique Rock Cats Sandwich Plate to add to fans' collections. In addition, the good folks from the Spina Bifida Association of Connecticut - and the ALS Association of CT on the 70th anniversary of Lou Gehrig's Farewell Address - will also be on hand. Further, our friends from the Barnum Financial Group - sponsors of every home Sunday's Barnum Financial Family Fun Day at the Stadium - will put an exclamation point on this year's support by providing some 150 new bicycles to the same number of needy 8-year-old kids from New Britain, Hartford, Waterbury, and environs! What a wonderful donation - and what a swell way for a deserving child to get his or her Summer "rolling". Thank you Barnum! By the way, these are the same child-friendly folks who sponsor Rock Cats fans 12-and-under going on to the field for a post-game Run the Bases each Sunday throughout the season. This is a treat - if not a thrill - for both smiling kids and observing parents. As noted on the TV commercial: "Priceless!"

Both the Season's 7th homestand - and this important four-game set with the visiting Mets - will wrap up with a High Noon tilt on Monday. And on this particular day, the Rock Cats will help celebrate the start of Summer by hosting their first Parks and Recreation Day of the 2009 Season. We'll look forward to hosting hundreds of local

Parks and Rec campers for what will be - for many - their first professional baseball game. In addition, as it's Monday night, it's also an opportunity to gain access to an All-You-Can-Eat All-American Barbeque in one of the Stadium's picnic areas. This classic ballpark fare offering of Hot Dogs, Hamburgs, Grilled Chicken, Chips, Soft Drink and Salad is available for $10 above the price of your ticket. Come early and munch away as the mid-day game gets underway. Get your local baseball fix just in advance of the players taking a break for the Eastern League All-Star Game, scheduled for Wednesday night at Waterfront Park in Trenton, New Jersey. The Rock Cats will be sending a large contingent - five players - and we wish them all the best as they proudly represent New Britain on that starry Eastern League stage.

The New Britain Rock Cats are the Double-A, Eastern League affiliate of the American League's Minnesota Twins.
