New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League announced today they have placed 23-year-old Catcher Allan de San Miguel on the Disabled List. The 5'10"/190-pound native of Perth, Australia injured his right elbow while attempting a throw to second base during an April 30, 2011 game at New Britain against visiting Harrisburg. As an opposing runner attempted to steal second, the Harrisburg batter inadvertently stepped into de San Miguel's throwing lane, causing the Catcher's arm to strike the batter's upper body. He was removed from the game shortly thereafter.

The well-traveled de San Miguel was in his third season with the Rock Cats. He began his pro career after having been signed by New Britain's parent club, the Minnesota Twins, as a Free Agent in 2004. He spent portions of the 2009 and 2010 seasons with the Rock Cats before joining them to start this season. An excellent defensive receiver, de San Miguel appeared in 13 games for the 2011 Rock Cats and departs for the DL with a .190 BA.

There has been no corresponding move to fill the vacancy on the New Britain roster.
