New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
(New Britain, CT)-Jacob Butler doubled in a run and hit a three-run homer staking the Fisher Cats to an early 4-0 lead Friday night at New Britain, but the Rock Cats rallied for a 12-6 win before 5,295 at New Britain Stadium.
In the top of the first inning, Aaron Mathews (1-for-2, R, 2 BB) singled and Butler (2-for-4, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, R) doubled him home to give New Hampshire a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third inning, Mathews walked, Travis Snider (1-for-4, R) singled, and Butler hit his third home run to make it 4-0 against Rock Cats starter Anthony Swarzak.
New Britain tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the third inning, three of the runs scoring on a bases-loaded double by Brock Peterson (1-for-3, 3 RBI, 2B, R, 2 BB).
The Fisher Cats (9-17) moved back in front in the top of the fourth inning. Kyle Phillips (2-for-4, R) singled and scored on a double by catcher Brian Jeroloman (2-for-4, RBI, 2 2B).
The Rock Cats (14-12) then exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take control of the game. Steven Tolleson (3-for-3, 2 RBI, 3 2B, 3 R, BB) drove in two runs with the first of his three doubles to put New Britain up 6-5. Dustin Martin's RBI fielders choice made it 7-5. A walk to Peterson ended the outing for starter Scott Richmond (2-3). Daryl Harang then gave up a grand slam home run to David Winfree to make it 11-5 in favor of the Rock Cats.
New Britain added a run on an RBI single by Luke Hughes (1-for-5, RBI) off Harang in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Rock Cats relief pitcher Kyle Aselton (2-0) worked three scoreless innings in relief of Swarzak to earn the win. He allowed just one hit, walked one and struck out four. Ben Julianel pitched the final two innings, yielding a solo home run to Ryan Klosterman (1-for-4, HR, RBI) in the top of the ninth inning.
The series continues Saturday night at 6:35pm. RHP Brandon Magee (0-3, 5.93) starts for the Fisher Cats against RHP Jay Rainville (1-3, 10.29) for the Rock Cats. Radio coverage begins at 6:15pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.
