Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Bobby Parnell allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings and Nick Evans finished a double shy of the cycle to help the Binghamton Mets beat the Connecticut Defenders 5-3 at NYSEG Stadium Friday. The win ends Binghamton's losing streak at six games.

Binghamton (11-17) got to Connecticut starter Garrett Broshuis in the first two innings. In the first, Fernando Martinez doubled with one out and scored on Evans' two-out single. Evans then stole second and scored on Mike Carp's base hit up the middle for a 2-0 B-Mets lead. The second began with a Jose Coronado single. After two bunts moved him to third, Coronado scored on Martinez's sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

Connecticut (12-15) scored a pair in the fifth on Dave Maroul's homer and Ben Copeland's RBI single off Parnell (1-2), cutting Binghamton's lead to 3-2. However, Daniel Murphy hit a solo homer off Broshuis (2-3) in the fifth to put Binghamton back up by two.

Travis Ishikawa's RBI groundout off Eude Brito in the eighth got Connecticut within a run once again before Evans homered leading off the bottom of the inning to provide Binghamton's final run.

Eddie Kunz struck out one in a 1-2-3 ninth for his fifth save in as many chances.

Saturday, the B-Mets play the second game of a three-game series against the Connecticut Defenders. Eric Brown (0-2, 4.97) will start for Binghamton against Dave McKae (1-1, 4.62) of Connecticut. The first pitch is slated for 1:05 p.m. at NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast beginning at 12:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
