New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - David Winfree's grand slam capped off a seven-run fourth inning as the Rock Cats went on to down New Hampshire, 12-6 on Friday night.

The Rock Cats fell behind in the first inning when Aaron Matthews singled and scored on Jacob Butler's double to center field to put the Fisher Cats ahead, 1-0. In the third inning, Butler slugged a three-run homer off Rock Cats starter Anthony Swarzak to extend the Fisher Cats' lead to 4-0. It was only the second home allowed by Swarzak all season.

Scott Richmond held the Rock Cats hitless through the first two innings. In the third, though, the Rock Cats broke out the bats for three hits. Trevor Plouffe led off the inning with a double. Steve Tolleson and Drew Butera followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases. Luke Hughes, who has been the hottest hitting Rock Cat, struck out before Dustin Martin delivered an RBI single. Brock Peterson followed with a double that cleared the bases and tied the game, 4-4.

New Hampshire's Brian Jeroloman's RBI double put the Fisher Cats back on top, 5-4.

That's when the Rock Cats burst out for a seven-run inning. Felix Molina led off the fourth with a double and Plouffe followed with a single. Both runners scored on Tolleson's double and put the Rock Cats ahead, 6-5. Tolleson came around to score on a fielder's choice off the bat of Martin. Peterson drew a walk to load the bases and knock Richmond out of the game. Matt Moses struck out before Winfree crushed a home run over the center field wall for an 11-5 lead.

Tolleson finished the night a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate - all doubles - and scored three runs.

Swarzak lasted just four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. He struck out three. Kyle Aselton (2-0, 1.13) fired three shutout innings in relief to pick up the win. He limited the Fisher Cats to one hit while striking out four. For the Fisher Cats, Richmond (2-3, 6.68) was knocked out after 3 1/3 innings after being struck for 10 runs on six hits.
