Rochester's Shawn Williams named alternate captain for East All-Stars

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Knighthawks forward Shawn Williams has been named one of the alternate captains for the East Division All-Star team. The National Lacrosse League All-Star Game will be played at Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday, March 10th at 10:00 p.m. Eastern/7:00 p.m. Pacific.

The team captain of the East is Buffalo's John Tavares. The other alternate captain is Cam Woods of the Chicago Shamrox.

Williams will make this fourth NLL All-Star appearance, having also played in the 2002, 2005 and 2006 games. The Scarborough, Ontario, native ranks third on the Knighthawks in points with 50 (17+33) in nine games. In 2004, the forward was a First Team All-Pro as he led Rochester with 45 goals and 81 points.

Williams is in his 10th season of professional lacrosse. He spent two seasons with Ontario/Toronto (1999-2000). He won his only NLL championship with the Rock in 2000. The next two seasons were spent with the Buffalo Bandits (2000-01). On May 18, 2001, he was dealt to the Knighthawks in a seven-player trade. He is in sixth season with Rochester and is second in team history in goals (193), assists (248) and points (441). He is also ninth in league history in goals with 280. He has also served as one of Rochester's alternate captains since the 2005 season.

This weekend, the Knighthawks travel to play the Philadelphia Wings on Saturday, March 3rd at the Wachovia Center. The 7:30 p.m. game will be broadcast on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK and whtk.com. It will be joined in progress during the third quarter. The contest will also be televised tape delayed on Sunday, March 4th at 2:30 p.m. on VERSUS.
