Stealth look to win second straight

March 1, 2007 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
San Jose Stealth News Release

(San Jose, CA, March 1, 2007) --- Riding on the coat tails of their Feb 24 victory in New York, the Stealth are in pursuit of their second straight road win as they take on the Edmonton Rush on Friday, March 2 in Edmonton at Rexall Place at 6 p.m. PST.

Friday's game against Edmonton will be a battle for leverage in the Western Conference standings. A victory over the Rush will bring the Stealth one step closer to a potential playoff birth.

"Each game is important, but this is like a playoff game," said Stealth Head Coach Walt Christianson. "Of our next seven games, we have six with Portland and Edmonton, the two teams we are battling for fourth place. We are in control of our own destiny. We don't have to hope someone wins or loses, we can do it ourselves with wins against these teams."

This is the first of three meetings between the Stealth and the Rush of the 2007 Season. Last year, the Stealth faced the Rush twice and walked away victorious both times. On Jan 6, the Stealth defeated the Rush 10-9 in overtime with Jeff Zywicki scoring the game winning goal 2:59 into OT and on March 11 the Stealth overcame the Rush with another one goal victory, 12-11.

The Stealth earned their second road win of the season last weekend when they tackled the New York Titans 12-11. Jeff Zywicki and Colin Doyle led the Stealth past the Titans with two goals and four assists each, while Anthony Cosmo made 42 saves in the victory. The Stealth have earned the number one penalty killing percentage (61.9) in the NLL after shutting down the Titan power play seven of eight times.

Stealth Forward Jeff Zywicki currently ranks ninth in goals scored in the NLL with 21 goals in only seven games. Zywicki, who will represent the Stealth in the 2007 NLL All-Star Game on March 10, is only two goals away from scoring his 50th goal in a Stealth uniform.
