Rochester Red Wings News Release

Rochester Red Wings (24-31) @ Charlotte Knights (23-33)

Knights Stadium - Fort Mill, SC - 7:15 p.m.

RHP Vance Worley (1-0, 0.00) vs. RHP Simon Castro (0-6, 5.59)

TONIGHT'S GAME: After seeing their four-game win streak snapped on a Gordon Beckham walk-off single in the 9th inning last night, the Wings will look to kick-start another streak Saturday night in game two of their four-game set against the Charlotte Knights (White Sox) at 7:15 p.m. from Knights Stadium in Ft. Mill, SC... The Wings - 9.0 GB of Pawtucket in the IL North - have still won 6 of their last 9 games and are 22-20 since their 2-11 start. The Knights finished May with a 16-13 mark after going just 7-20 in April but are still 12.5 games back of Norfolk in the IL South division.

IN A PINCH: OF Brian Dinkelman delivered a two-out, pinch-hit, game-tying home run Friday night in the top of the 9th inning. It was the first pinch-hit homer by a Wings player since Dustin Martin on August 8, 2011 at Durham and the first of Dinkelman's career... He is now 2-for-4 with a walk and 3 RBI pinch-hitting this season. He and Ray Olmedo are a combined 4-for-6 in pinch-hitting spots this season, while the rest of the team is just 1-for-19.

HITTIN' THE HOMER: The Wings hit two more home runs on Friday and have now hit 11 in their last four games. Their 52 homers on the season ranks 3rd in the IL -- 10 behind league-leading Buffalo. Through May last season, the Wings had hit just 25 long balls and didn't hit their 52nd homer until July 4 -- their 86th game of the season... Rochester hit 47 homers thru May in the 2005 season but hadn't hit more than 36 (2008) in the season's first two months until this season. The Wings are on pace to hit 136 home runs this season, it would be the most since the Wings hit 138 in 2005.

-30 of the 52 (58%) homers have been solo shots and 47 of 52 (90%) have been either solo or 2-run homers... OF Clete Thomas as all three 3-run homers for the Wings this season.

-The Wings have already gotten 5 home runs from three players (Bernier (2), Fryer (2) & Rohlfing (1)) who hit a combined one HR last season and just 10 homers combined the last two seasons.

VANIMAL...PT. 2: RHP Vance Worley will make his second start for the Wings on Saturday and first since his 9-inning complete-game shutout in his Red Wings debut on Monday. In that game, he allowed just 5 hits and 4 walks over his 119-pitch (74 strike) performance against his former teammates from Lehigh Valley. The 25-year-old right-hander didn't allow a runner to reach 3rd base all game and didn't allow a runner to reach 2nd base until the 6th inning... In his lone start against the Knights two years ago (6/3/11), Worley tossed 6.0 shutout innings allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out nine.

MORE ABOUT LAST NIGHT...:

-Rochester lost in walk-off fashion for the 3rd time this season and first since 4/23 @ SYR... The Wings went on to win 4 straight after that loss. This walk-off loss snapped a four-game win streak.

-The Wings went 0-for-10 with RISP and left 10 men on base... They had been hitting .319 with RISP over their last 15 games

-Oswaldo Arcia homered in consecutive games for a second time this year... No Wings player has hit one in 3 straight games

-Michael Tonkin allowed the GW-hit on the first pitch he threw after reliever Virgil Vasquez worked 3.1 innings of relief and took the tough-luck loss(3.1 ip, 2h, r/er, 4k)... Tonkin, meanwhile, has thrown just three pitches over his first two Triple-A appearances and has allowed two, run-scoring singles without recording an out yet.

BRING BACK THE D: The Wings have committed an error in a season-high eight straight games (9 total E) and now have 15 errors in their last 15 games... The Wings, once the best defensive team in the IL, have fallen to 7th in fielding percentage in the IL (.979) but still have committed just 42 errors on the season -- T-4th least in the league.

TIME TO MAKE OUR MOVE: Prior to Friday's action, the Wings were entering a 16-game stretch against three teams (Charlotte, Gwinnett & Toledo) with a combined .382 winning percentage (63-102)... At current, the Wings won't face another team with a winning record until they travel to Indianapolis on June 25. The Indians, Pittsburgh's top affiliate, currently own the best record in the IL at 36-19.

WINGS VS. KNIGHTS: The Red Wings will need to win the final three games of this four-game set to win back-to-back season series vs. Charlotte after taking 5 of 8 games from the Knights last season. However, the Red Wings haven't won a series in Fort Mill since 2007. The two clubs split a close four-game series in Rochester last week as all five games have now been decided by 3 runs or less -- including three by one-run. Doug Bernier and Brian Dinkelman are a combined 12-for-29 with two doubles, a homer and 5 RBI against the Knights this season.

-Today's CHA starter Simon Castro made his first career IL start against the Wings on 6/23/12 (L, 5.0 ip, 11h, 7r, 6er)
