Norfolk Tides News Release
Trayvon Robinson belted a one-out solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, powering the Tides to a 6-5 walk-off win over the Buffalo Bisons in front of 7,117 fans at Harbor Park Saturday night.
Robinson launched a 2-1 offering from Chad Beck (1-1) deep over the right field wall, helping the Tides snap a two-game skid. It was the fifth walk-off win for Norfolk this season, and the first walk-off homer for the Tides since Luis Exposito accomplished the feat on August 17, 2012.
With the win, Norfolk pulled 4.0 games ahead of Buffalo in the IL Wild Card standings while moving to within one game of Durham for first place in the IL South division.
Norfolk had jumped out to an early lead against Bisons starter Ricky Romero, as Russ Canzler belted a two-run homer in the first inning to give the Tides an early 2-0 advantage. The Tides extended their lead an inning later, as Xavier Avery lined an RBI triple before scoring on a wild pitch to push Norfolk's advantage to 4-0.
Tides starter Josh Stinson faced just two batters over the minimum over his first three innings before Buffalo rallied against him in the fourth. The Bisons collected five hits in the fourth frame, including a two-run homer by Mauro Gomez and a two-run single by Ryan Goins to knot the score at 4-4.
Stinson yielded five runs on 10 hits in 6.0 innings while issuing two walks and striking out three. He threw 57 of his 98 pitches for strikes while working six innings for the seventh time in his last eight outings.
Jairo Asencio (3-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief.
The two clubs will continue their four-game series Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 1:05. Jair Jurrjens (4-2, 3.41) will take the mound for the Tides against Bisons right-hander Justin Germano (3-4, 7.24).
