Columbus Clippers News Release
It was a frustrating night at Huntington Park as Columbus could not get anything going in a 11-0 shellacking at the hands of the Indianapolis Indians.
After a rain delay of one hour and seventeen minutes knocked the start time from 7:05 PM to 8:30 PM, Indianapolis immediately went to work with the bats. Felix Pie knocked in a run with an RBI single. The very next batter, Matt Hague, crushed a two run shot into the left field picnic area. So before the Clippers even came to bat, they were trailing 3-0.
The Indians then put together another three run inning in the second. Jerry Sands hit a solo shot off the scoreboard in right center and Chase d' Arnaud and Felix Pie contributed with RBI doubles of their own accord.
Indianapolis continued to hit with great regularity. Hague hit an RBI single in the fourth, Jared Goedert drove home another run with an RBI double in the sixth. Tony Sanchez also recorded a two run double in the sixth and later deposited a solo homer into the Scott's Lawn Seats in left center in the eighth.
While Indy had no trouble scoring runs, the Clippers were shut down by Indians righty Gerrit Cole. Cole (W, 4-3) pitched seven strong innings, shutting out Columbus on two hits while striking out five and walking two. Joe Martinez (L, 1-4) took the loss for the Clippers. Martinez struggled mightily against Indianapolis, giving up ten runs on sixteen hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Columbus will look for a better result on Saturday night as they continue their four game series with the Indians. The Clippers will have right-hander Carlos Carrasco (2-0, 1.85) get the start on the mound. Indianapolis will counter with righty Brooks Brown (3-1, 4.33). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
