GAME 113

*LAST TIME OUT*

GEORGE & SNYDER LEAD TIDES PAST RED WINGS, 4-1-Norfolk starter Chris George (5-4), making a spot start, pitched 7.0 very strong innings and Tides first baseman Brandon Snyder hit a two-run double in the seventh inning, as Norfolk defeated Rochester 4-1, Friday night at Harbor Park. Starter Kevin Slowey (1-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out six in 5.0 innings of work. Aaron Bates went 2-for-4 with a RBI to lead the Red Wings' seven-hit (all singles) attack. Rochester has lost two in a row and three of their last four games. The Red Wings have lost four straight at Harbor Park.

*WHAT'S ON DECK*

ON THE ROAD AGAIN-The Red Wings continue their eight-game road trip tonight with the third game of a four-game series in Norfolk. Rochester will play in Norfolk tonight and Sunday before concluding the trip with a four-game series in Durham Monday-Thursday. Rochester will return to Frontier Field on Friday, August 12th for a five-game, four-day series vs. Columbus.

ROAD WARRIORS-Of the 32 games left on the Red Wings 2011 schedule 20 of those games are road games (12 home games left). Rochester will play 11 of their final 15 games (includes a doubleheader at Syracuse August 26) away from Frontier Field.

*WHAT'S NEWS*

I LOVE A (HIT) PARADE-The Red Wings offense has heated up the last eight games batting .294 (83-for-282) as a team. Rochester has 10 or more hits in five of these eight games and has scored 40 runs (5.0 runs per game).

KING OF THE HILL-Infielder Aaron Bates is currently 2nd on the IL batting leader list batting .323. Bates trails only Indianapolis outfielder Alex Presley (.336). Presley is currently on the Pittsburg Pirates disabled list and will drop off the IL batting leader list in five games. If Bates wins, he would become only the third Red Wing (outfielder Jason Kubel in 2004 and infielder Randy Ruiz in 2008) to win the IL batting title since 1988 when outfielder Steve Finley captured the crown with a .314 batting average. Bates would also become only the second righthanded Rochester hitter (Ruiz in 2008) to win the IL batting title since infielder Rich Dauer in 1976.

HOT WING-Infielder Jeff Bailey has a seven-game hitting streak batting .462 (12-for-26) with one double, one triple, two home runs and nine RBI. Bailey has at least one RBI in six of the seven games and has five multi-hit games during this seven-game hitting streak. Since July 1st Bailey is batting .347 (35-for-101) with six doubles, three triples, four home runs and 23 RBI in 30 games.

OH WHAT A RELIEF!-The Red Wings bullpen has been outstanding the last 14 games, going 1-2 with one save and a 1.34 ERA. In 47.0 innings of work, the pen allowed just 11 runs (seven earned) on 31 hits while walking 14 and striking out 36.

IT'S A SIX INNING GAME-So far this season you can usually tell what is going to happen in the Red Wings game after six innings. The Red Wings hold just a 2-53 record when trailing after six innings and a 38-7 record when leading after six innings. Since the start of the 2010 season Rochester has just an 8-124 record when trailing after six innings. Rochester hasn't had much luck rallying in the later innings as well (since start of 2010 season 5-128 record when trailing after seven innings and 1-137 record when trailing after eight innings).

YOU CAN'T TELL THE PLAYERS WITHOUT A SCORECARD-The 2011 Red Wings have endured 115 transactions and used 52 different players (24 pitchers & 28 position players). The club had 19 transactions in April, 29 in May, 30 in June, 29 in July and 6 so far in August. The 52 players used in 2011 is the second most players used in one season. The all-time franchise record is 62 players & 134 transactions set back in 1995. Rochester has already sent 16 different players to the Minnesota Twins this season (14 players from Opening Day roster).
