Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - For the Charlotte Knights it was worth the wait. After a rain delay of 2 hours and 37 seven minutes the Knights were able to defeat the Gwinnett Braves 7-5 at Knights Stadium.
Gwinnett got off to a fast start when former Knights outfielder Stefan Gartrell hit a two run home run to right centerfield. The Braves added another run on a Wilkin Ramirez sacrifice fly that would score Mauro Gomez.
Charlotte would put together a big inning of their own in the third inning. The Knights scored five runs in the inning, the first two coming off an Eduardo Escobar RBI single and then a wild pitch from the Braves Erik Cordier. The Knights Dallas McPherson would then drive in two on a base hit to right field.
Cordier would have some control problems in the fourth inning and walked the bases loaded before eventually walking in a run. Charlotte starter Dylan Axelrod fared better earning the win to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Knights Gregory Infante earned the save pitching 1.1 scoreless innings.
The Knights take on the Braves tomorrow in Gwinnett. LHP Doug Davis will start for Charlotte and RHP Randall Delgado will start for the Braves.
The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. For ticket or event information, please contact the Knights front office at (704) 357-8071 or (803) 548-8050 or visit our website at for more information.
