MAUL OF AMERICA: The Rochester Red Wings dropped the series-opener in St. Paul last night, 15-9, despite their offense collecting a season-high 15 hits, including multi-hit performances from six players...CF ALEX CALL slugged his sixth homer of the season to tie the team lead, while RF TRAVIS BLANKENHORN collected an extra-base hit, drove in an RBI, and scored a run for his fourth consecutive game...Rochester looks to get back into the win column tonight, sending RHP SPENSER WATKINS to the mound against Saints RHP Joe Gunkel...
After losing last night, the Red Wings now have an 0-7 all-time record at CHS Field in St. Paul...they also were swept in a six-game series from 6/7-12 in 2022.
CLUFF THE MAGIC RED WING: SS JACKSON CLUFF notched his first base hit and RBI at the Triple-A level last night, going 2-for-5 with a pair of singles...this is Cluff's first multi-hit game since 9/3/2023 at ALT (PIT) with Double-A Harrisburg...the BYU product is coming off a 2023 season where he posted career-highs in home runs (7), stolen bases (15), and OPS (.745)...
Cluff is just the third Idahoan to appear for a Rochester squad and first since LHP Ed Ludwig in 1955.
FOR THE LONGEST TIME: The contest between the Red Wings and Saints last night lasted for a total of three hours and 34 minutes...this marks the Wings' longest nine-inning game since 9/29/2021 against Scranton/WB (3:53)...
In 2023, 27 of the teams' 112 nine-inning games (24%) lasted at least three hours.
I GOT THE KIE(S): With a double off rehabbing RHP Jhoan Duran in the fifth inning, DH CARTER KIEBOOM has now reached base in all 14 games he has appeared in this season, longest streak on the team and tied for the seventh-longest in the International League...
The Georgia native's on-base percentage of .456 this season is the best on the team and ranks seventh in the IL.
POINT BLANK RANGE : RF TRAVIS BLANKENHORN went 2-for-6 with a double and an RBI in yesterday's game, raising his batting average to .329 on the season...the reigning IL Player of the Week currently holds the longest active RBI Streak (4 games) and extra-base hit streak (4 games) in the International League...
Blankenhorn currently ranks in the top 10 in the International League in total bases (3rd, 49), RBI (T-6th, 18), slugging percentage (6th, .671), OPS (6th, 1.088), and extra-base hits (9th, 12).
LONG DISTANCE CALL : CF ALEX CALL got the Red Wings offense started by hitting a towering shot to right field last night, his 6th home run of the year and his third in as many games...Call is now tied with RF TRAVIS BLANKENHORN for the team lead in home runs and has gone 4-for-11 (.364) over his last three games since 4/20 against Toledo...the Burnsville native has now raised his current slugging percentage to .500, tied with 1B JUAN YEPEZ for second-best on the Red Wings behind Blankenhorn (.671).
YEPPY KI-YAY: 1B JUAN YEPEZ logged a 2-for-4 performance last night, driving in two RBI while adding a double, a single, and two walks...the former St. Louis Cardinal is now tied with OF JAMES WOOD for the team lead with 15 walks, and is tied for the second-most RBI on the team (15) with OF ALEX CALL ...the Venezuela native has also logged a hit in four straight games, dating back to 4/19 against Toledo.
LECROY AND THE HIT FACTORY: The Red Wings offense recorded a season-high 15 hits in last night's loss...this marks the most hits they've had in a game since 9/17/2023 vs. Lehigh Valley...each hitter in the lineup also had at least one hit, last achieved on 6/13/2023 in a win versus Scranton W/B...
Six Red Wings' batters notched multi-hit efforts in last night's game, the first time the Red Wings have achieved this feat since that same game on 6/13 of last season.
