Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

Durham, NC - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders topped the Durham Bulls 6-1 Wednesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Will Warren struck out six over six innings and was backed by early and late run support as the RailRiders evened the six-game set at one win apiece.

In the top of the second, Jose Rojas worked a leadoff walk against Bulls starter Jacob Lopez. With one down, Jeter Downs launched a 1-1 pitch 427 feet over the high wall in left-center for a 2-0 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead. It was Downs third home run of the year; each of which has gone over 400 feet.

Warren worked four shutout frames at the outset. The right-hander didn't allow a hit until the fourth and surrendered a solo home run to Dom Smith to start the fifth; the lone run allowed by RailRiders pitching Wednesday.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre broke the game open with a four-spot in the top of the seventh inning. Downs walked to start the inning against reliever Colby White and stole second with Kevin Smith at the plate. Smith followed with an RBI single. With two outs, Smith stole second and then worked a double steal with Caleb Durbin after a walk. White balked in a run to push the RailRiders lead to 4-1. Everson Pereira drilled his team-best seventh home run of the season, an opposite-field shot for a 6-1 advantage.

Warren (W, 3-0) earned the win, striking out six over six complete innings. Clayton Andrews tossed two perfect frames with three strikeouts and Alex Mauricio pitched a four-batter ninth with a pair of strikeouts. Lopez (L, 2-2) took the loss for the Bulls.

Downs finished 2-for-3 with the home run, a walk, a steal and a pair of runs scored. Pereira and Luis Torrens also collected multi-hit games for the RailRiders.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Durham play game three of this series Thursday at 6:35 P.M. Clayton Beeter and Nathan Wiles start for the RailRiders and Bulls, respectively.
