New Jersey Jackals News Release
Ottawa, ON - Ottawa starter Fraser Robinson (3-5) tossed eight solid innings as the Rapidz defeated the New Jersey Jackals 7-4 on Saturday afternoon at Ottawa Stadium. With the win, the Rapidz clinched their first-ever series victory after last night's win in game one of the three-game set.
After a rain delay pushed back the game's first pitch by two hours, the Rapidz opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when LF Jereme Milons hit his fifth home run of the season to give Ottawa a 1-0 lead. But in the top of the fourth inning, the Jackals jumped on top 2-1 as three straight singles loaded the bases for C Matt Lauderdale, who lifted a sacrifice fly to score 2B Bryant Nelson and tie it up 1-1. Later in the inning LF Andrew Larsen dropped an RBI single in front of Milons in left field to put New Jersey up by a run.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Rapidz 1B Jabe Bergeron singled to begin the frame and advanced to second on a wild pitch before scoring on an RBI single by CF Pete Pirman as Ottawa tied the score at 2-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jackals starter Tom Atlee (1-2) ran out of gas as Ottawa took the lead. Consecutive RBI base hits by 2B Jose De Los Santos and 3B Jake Daubert were followed by a Bergeron two-run home run as the Rapidz gained a 6-2 advantage.
In the top of the eighth, three Ottawa errors led to two unearned runs for the Jackals as they pulled within two, but a Rapidz insurance run in the bottom of the inning would close out the scoring at 7-4.
Robinson scattered eight hits while striking out six in the win. For New Jersey, Atlee pitched well until allowing four runs in the seventh inning. Overall, the righty led up six runs on 12 hits while striking out three. Neither starting pitcher surrendered a walk. Ottawa reliever Reid Price threw a scoreless ninth to notch his second save of the season.
The Jackals look to salvage the final game of their three-game series against the Rapidz on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. when New Jersey left-hander Jorge Acosta takes the hill against Ottawa righty Noel Baca at Ottawa Stadium. You can catch every pitch via live webcast at www.jackals.com with the broadcast beginning five minutes prior to first pitch.
