Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- Records keep falling and the wins keep coming for the Rockford IceHogs as they blew out the Quad City Mallards on Friday night 7-0 in front of 4,410 fans at the Rockford MetroCentre. Hogs goalie Michel Robinson recorded Rockford's second straight shutout and his first of the season to lead Rockford to their club record tying ninth straight win.

Rockford and winger Jason Ralph scored early and often to take control early. Ralph notched his first of three on the night 4:06 into the contest when he slammed home a Steve Yetman rebound with the Hogs skating short-handed. The winger then netted his second goal of the night on the power play, knocking another rebound past Mallards goalie Jason Tapp at 8:59. Center Preston Mizzi chased Tapp from the game at 15:49 with a breakaway goal, putting Rockford up 3-0 at the first break.

In the second period, Ralph didn't waste any time in getting his hat trick. Just 21 seconds into the frame, Ralph slapped in a perfect feed from Greg Barber past Terry Friesen. Mizzi later tallied his second breakaway goal of the night, when he beat Friesen five-hole at 7:14 for the 5-0 advantage.

Hogs winger Jason Notermann kept the scoring going for the Hogs with a marker 1:28 into the final frame. Rookie winger Chaz Johnson finished off the Mallards and put Friesen back on the bench at 5:56 with his 14th goal of the campaign.

Rockford was actually outshot 30-27 in the contest, but Robinson stopped all of them to earn his IceHogs record eighth shutout. Rookie defenseman Ryan Carrigan set a club record as he has recorded a plus/minus rating of even or plus in 25 straight games. Rockford also extended their team record home unbeaten streak to 12 games (11-0-1).

Yetman finished the game with three assists while Barber, Olivier Proulx, Yannick Tifu and Matt Gens all added a pair of helpers in Rockford's winning effort.

Next Home Game: Saturday, Feb. 11 vs. Missouri River Otters. The game is slated to start at 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and River Otters match-up for the final time this season at the Rockford MetroCentre in the front end of a home-and-home series. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive a pair of Thunder Sticks from Thompson's Transmissions and Everything 95.3FM.
