Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced on Friday that the United Hockey League club has loaned defenseman Corey Hessler to Rockford's American Hockey League affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals. Hessler is expected to be in the Ads lineup tonight when they host the Iowa Stars at the Bradley Center.
For Hessler, the call-up is the second on the season. The Hogs All-Star defenseman participated in five contests with the Admirals in January and made a big impact. Hessler netted 2g-1a-3pts and had a plus/minus rating of +5. To top it off, Hessler netted the game-winning goal for Milwaukee in their 4-3 win over the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights with just 20 seconds remaining in regulation on Jan. 19.
Before this season, Hessler had played in eight AHL games with the Portland Pirates during the 2003-04 campaign. The fourth year defenseman leads all IceHogs blue liners in scoring this season with 8g-25a-33pts. Hessler's 26 overall assists this year is already a career high.
Hessler is one of 11 IceHogs skaters to be loaned to the AHL this season, a UHL high. Forwards Greg Barber, Chaz Johnson, Preston Mizzi, Jason Notermann and Billy Tibbetts, defenseman Matt Gens, Nathan Lutz and Evgueni Nourislamov and goaltenders Michel Robinson and Ronnie Vogel have all been loaned to the "A" a combined 21 times.
Next Home Game: Friday, Feb. 10 vs. Quad City Mallards. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Mallards engage in a rematch at the MetroCentre. The Zooperstars will be on hand to entertain the crowd during the intermissions.
Saturday, Feb. 11 vs. Missouri River Otters. The game is slated to start at 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and River Otters match-up for the final time this season at the Rockford MetroCentre in the front end of a home-and-home series. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive Thunder Sticks from Thompson's Transmissions and Everything 95.3FM.
