
Roberts and Jones Lead Cats to Feast over T-Bones

Kansas City, KS July 20, 2015- The Gary South Shore RailCats used a quality start from Andy Roberts and another explosive night at the plate to beat the Kansas City T-Bones 10-5 Monday night at CommunityAmerica Park in Kansas City.
Roberts came in (0-5) and trying to avenge a July 4th outing in Kansas City, where the Bones touched him up for six runs on eight hits. Tonight it was an about face as the Arizona native went six allowing one run in the sixth a solo homerun from Jake Blackwood. Roberts won two key battles in the third and fifth getting Nate Tinbrink out twice with two on and two outs the second time with a strike out.
The offense continued to stay hot with JD Pulfer and Jon Jones leading the way. The Cats grabbed the lead in the second off of Kansas City ace Blake Holovach. Tillman Pugh walked and Michael Schroeder reached on a single top put runners and first and second. Roger Bernal then moved the runners with a sac bunt and Jose Sermo added his 6th RBI since joining the RailCats six games ago, with a fielders choice to second. With the score 1-0 Pulfer then singled to bring home Schroeder and it was 2-0.
It was Jones turn in the top of the fourth. With one out Sermo singled and stole second and was followed by a walk from Ryan Brockett. Pulfer then drove in Seromo with an RBI single to set up Jone Jones. With runners at the corners Jones hit a shot down the right field line that hit off the top of the wall and bounced over for a three run homerun his second deep ball of the year. RailCats were in control 6-0.
In the top of the sixth the RailCats scored three more with RBI singles from Jones, Pugh and Schroeder to make it 9-0. The Bones got their solo shot from Blackwood in the bottom of the sixth. Gary then got another run in the seventh on another RBI from Jones, who had four on the night, with a ground ball to second. Kansas City scored four runs off of RailCats rookie lefty Dan Ludwig in the home half of the eighth inning Andy Loomis came in to work a scoreless 1.2 IP to keep the score at 10-5.
Roberts (1-5) picked up his first win as a RailCat while Holovach (5-1) was charged with his first loss of the season. The RailCats are currently 4-2 on the current eight game road swing and trail Kansas City by blank in the wild card race in the American Association.
Game three of the four game series is set for Tuesday night with RHP Travis McGee (1-0, 4,21) set to go for Gary while Kansas City will send out RHP Bobby Doran (8-1, 4.64). The first pitch is set for 7:05pm from CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City. The game can be heard on 95.9 WEFM and online at RailCatsBaseball.com.
The RailCats return home Thursday night to open a four game series with the Sioux City Explorers.
