Laredo Lemurs News Release
Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs' (31-26) third baseman Juan Silverio drove in the winning run from third in the bottom of the ninth for a 1-0 victory over the Joplin Blasters (30-24) on Tuesday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
The game was a pitchers' duel as both of the starters were fantastic in their outings. Lemurs' starter Greg Holle went eight complete innings without allowing a run on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Nestor Molina was equally as good, as he went eight frames without allowing a run on four hits with no walks and seven punch-outs. Neither of the starting pitchers earned a decision in the game.
The Lemurs went to the bullpen in the top of the ninth, allowing John Brebbia to take over on the hill. Brebbia sat the Blasters down in order and recorded a strikeout as well. With the win, Brebbia now moves to 5-2 on the season.
Victor Capellan (4-2) took the loss for the Blasters. He came in to the start the ninth, taking over for Molina. Capellan gave up a leadoff base hit to D'Vontrey Richardson to start the inning. Then Dustin Geiger came to the plate and was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second base. Denis Phipps was the next batter and he put down a sac-bunt to move Richardson and Geiger up to second and third. The next batter was Kevin Taylor and he was intentionally walked to load the bases. That brought up Juan Silverio who lined a sharp single to right to drive in Richardson from third to give the Lemurs the 1-0 walk-off win.
The Laredo Lemurs will host the Joplin Blasters for the series finale tomorrow night as the Lemurs go for the sweep at 7:30pm at Uni-Trade Stadium.
