Laredo Lemurs News Release
Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs (30-26) picked up 17 hits for the fifth time this season as they rolled over the Joplin Blaster (30-22) 9-2 on Monday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
The Lemurs saw six batters get two or more hits with Denis Phipps and Brian Peterson leading the way with three each. Everyone in the order got a hit as well except for Jeudy Valdez, who was replaced by Ryan Ortiz after his second at-bat. Ortiz picked up two hits out of the nine hole in place of Valdez.
Dusting Geiger picked up two hits and he hit his 12th home run of the season. Geiger had seven homers with the Wingnuts and now he has five since joining the Lemurs on June 28.
The Lemurs defense was on the mark tonight (even though they made two errors) as they turned five inning-ending double plays.
Lemurs' starter Luis Pollorena (4-1) made his first start at home of four starts and put in a strong effort as he earned the win, going five frames and giving up one run on six hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
Jorge Martinez took the loss for the Blasters. He went four innings, giving up six runs on eight hits with three walks and six stikeouts. The Blasters' pitching staff picked up 13 strikeouts against Lemurs hitters tonight.
The Laredo Lemurs will host the Joplin Blasters for the next two nights with both games starting at 7:30pm at Uni-Trade Stadium.
