Edmonton Road Runners News Release
HAMILTON, ON - J.J. Hunter scored with less than one second remaining in regulation to give the Toronto Roadrunners a 2-2 tie with the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Roadrunners goaltender Stephen Valiquette was tested early and often, making a franchise high 49 saves. Valiquette was named the game's second star.
Bulldogs forward Jozef Balej opened the scoring at 8:06 of the first period on a 2-on-1 when he deposited the rebound of a Jimmie Olvestad shot into an open net. The Roadrunners allowed a season high 22 shots on net in the first period.
The Roadrunners tied the game at 10:41 of the second period, when Jeff Woywitka tipped Jamie Wright's point shot past Hamilton goaltender Jean-Francois Damphousse with Toronto on the power play.
Hamilton would regain the led before the end of the period when Balej scored his second of the game and twentieth of the season with 1:39 remaining in the frame.
The only goal in the third period came with Valiquette on the bench in favor of an extra attacker. Hunter backhanded Dave Roche's pass behind Bulldogs goaltender Jean-Francois Damphousse with less than one second to play.
The Roadrunners were 1 for 4 on the power play, while the Bulldogs were 0 for 4.
The Toronto Roadrunners return to action tomorrow evening at 5:00 PM, when they host the Chicago Wolves at the Ricoh Coliseum.
