Libby Re-Assigned to Quad City

PORTLAND, ME – The Portland Pirates announced today that defenseman Matt Libby has been re-assigned to the Quad City Mallards of the United Hockey League by the Pirates' National Hockey League affiliate, the Washington Capitals. Libby joined the Mallards yesterday for a pair of weekend games against Adirondack.

In 27 games this season, Libby had one goal, two assists and six penalty minutes. He played his first season with the Pirates during 2002-2003 when he skated in 44 games, amassing 12 assists and 27 penalty minutes. Now in his third professional season, the native of Saco, Maine turned pro with the Trenton Titans of the ECHL in 2001-2002 after four years at Providence College. That year, he also played in the AHL for Bridgeport, Syracuse and Saint John.

The Pirates are at home tonight to host the Hershey Bears. It is the first of nine home games for the Pirates in January. Game time is 7:05 p.m. After visiting Lowell on Wednesday, January 7th, the Pirates return home to host the Manchester Monarchs on Friday, January 9th and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday, January 10th. On January 9th, it's also Maxime Ouellet Bobblehead Doll Night. The first 1,200 fans through the gate will receive a Maxime Ouellet bobblehead doll courtesy of Pepsi/Seltzer & Rydholm. On January 10th, the Pirates will induct current Penguins' and former Pirates' goaltender Martin Brochu into the Pirates Hall of Fame presented by Fleet.
