Road Warriors Slip Past Stingrays to Open Road Trip

Greenville, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (39-22-2-4) fell to the Greenville Road Warriors (38-23-2-3) 2-1 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena Sunday afternoon to kick off a five-game road trip.

The Road Warriors opened the scoring at 4:06 of the first period when forward Josh Nicholls knocked in a bouncing puck past Stingrays goaltender Allen York (L, 27 saves on 29 shots) for a shorthanded tally.

Forward Jordie Johnston gave the Road Warriors a 2-0 lead with a power-play marker 5:17 into the second period. Rookie Stephan Vigier put the Stingrays on the scoreboard while on the man advantage slipping a deflected shot around Road Warriors netminder Jeff Malcolm (W, 29 saves on 30 shots) at 12:00. Defenseman Dylan King picked up the lone assist. In the third period, the Stingrays rifled 10 shots towards Malcolm, but could not find the game-tying tally. The Stingrays finished the contest 1-for-6 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 1-for-5.

The Stingrays travel to Estero, Florida to battle the Florida Everblades on Wednesday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena and celebrate Fan Appreciation Night and The Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night on Friday, April 11 against the Elmira Jackals at the North Charleston Coliseum.
