Wranglers Score Three Goals in Final Two Minutes, Stun Aces 4-3
March 30, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - Trailing 3-1 with just 1:47 to go, Adam Hughesman, Chad Nehring and Matt Tassone combined for the fastest three goals of the season for Las Vegas, who turned a two-goal deficit into a dramatic last-minute victory over the Alaska Aces, 4-3. The three teamed up for a trio of scores in the final minutes, with goaltender Travis Fullerton, who made 41 saves in the victory, getting the assist on Tassone's game-winner. The victory was capped off by the final free postgame concert of the 2013-14 season, as Todd Snider took the on-ice stage immediately following the final horn. The three-game series will conclude tomorrow with a 2:05pm matinee start followed by the final "Skate with the Wranglers" of the season, where fans are invited to stay after the game and take the ice with the team.
Neither team was able to break through in a toughly contested first period, so the two headed to the dressing room knotted up 0-0. Wranglers' goaltender Travis Fullerton put on a show in the opening frame, making 17 saves on 17 shots, pushing his consecutive scoreless minutes streak to 45.
After a scoreless opening frame, the Aces would jump on the board first as Evan Trupp (15) gave Alaska the 1-0 lead just 36 seconds into the second period, assisted by Turner Elson (8). Las Vegas would answer back, however, as Justin Bernhart buried his fourth of the year, 7:24 into the period, assisted by Adam Huxley (11). Before the frame came to a close, Elson and Trupp would team up again, with Trupp scoring his second of the game and 16th of the year, putting the Aces on top 2-1 at the 15:44 mark.
With just 2:18 to go in the game, Alaska's Jordan Morrison (17) put the Aces on top 3-1, assisted by James Martin (15). But just a short 30 seconds later, Hughesman began the Wranglers' comeback with an unassisted goal, his team-leading 21st on the year, to make it a 3-2 game. Chad Nehring then tied the game up just 28 seconds later, with 1:19 to go on the clock, his 20th of the year, also unassisted. Matt Tassone (13) would then finish off the Wranglers' dramatic finish with just 37 seconds on the clock, hammering home a slap-shot assisted by Fullerton, his first of the year.
The Wranglers and Aces will finish up their three game weekend set tomorrow, Sunday, Mar. 30, at 2:05pm. The game will be followed by the final free post-game skate of the 2013-14 season, where all ticketed guests are invited to stay after the final horn and take the ice with their friends, families and Wrangler players. After that, Las Vegas will conclude their 2013-14 home campaign in their regular season finale and 11th Annual "Fan Appreciation Night," on Tuesday, Apr. 1, against the Bakersfield Condors. The first 1,000 fans in attendance on Tuesday night will receive free Wrangler T-shirts courtesy of the night's sponsor, Bank of America.
